JuiceFS @ DeveloperWeek New York 2026 – The Recap
In the talk, "Managing Unpredictable Quantitative Research Workloads: An Open Source Approach," we look at how quantitative trading firms can address the infrastructure problems caused by AI/ML-driven research, where sudden and unpredictable workloads put a strain on traditional storage systems. Key demands include the ability to quickly adjust to sudden computing tasks and a flexible design to safeguard proprietary models, along with essential POSIX compatibility for various AI tools, since using object storage directly can sometimes cause slowdowns. We present an evaluation framework comparing managed cloud file systems and then introduce an architectural blueprint based on an open-source, distributed file system that decouples performance from cost. This design delivers high-throughput access to hot data via sophisticated caching layers while leveraging low-cost object storage for archives, all seamlessly integrated with Kubernetes and cloud-first infrastructure.
